Although the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is widely thought of as a desert, the Kingdom has regions where the climate has favoured agriculture and, by implementing major irrigations projects, has taken great strides in developing the agricultural sector, adding previously barren areas to its stock of cultivatable land. Today, agriculture makes a substantial contribution to the Kingdom's economy.
