National Guard (1)

The National Guard was formed originally from the descendants of those who fought alongside King Abdul Aziz to consolidate the Kingdom and is now active in all parts of the Kingdom.

The National Guard is an independent force which, since 1962 (1382 AH), has been commanded by the Crown Prince, now King, Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. In 1967 (1387 AH), Prince Badr bin Abdul Aziz was appointed Deputy Commander to assist in the implementation of the ambitious development program.

Under the command of Crown Prince, now King, Abdullah, the National Guard has been converted from simple units of Mujahideen and volunteers into a major military and cultural institution. All the military and administrative systems of the National Guard have been re-organized to meet the demands of the complex role the Guard has to fulfill.
